Anxiety and depression are the cause of six million lost working days each year in Australia, resulting in 12 million days worth of reduced productivity, according to the Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA).
Furthermore, one in four Australians will experience an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives and most people do not know how to approach someone they deem in mental distress and would rather walk away than doing the “wrong thing” or just simply fear to approach this person as they might think he/she is a weirdo or they might even become aggressive.
It is time to take the stigma off mental health and treat it equally to any illness we respond to. Just because we cannot physically see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
